Silk Steps – background

Silk Steps was formed in November 1995 as an independent tour operator, specialising in travel to the Far East, Central Asia and parts of Africa.

The company is wholly owned by two Directors; Diana McCracken with over 25 years experience of the travel business and John Thorne, who brings 20 years of business and finance management experience.

Silk Steps specialises in tailor-making trips that provide a real choice to suit the individual. This combined with a high standard of service and professionalism has allowed the company to grow and become one of the country’s specialists in travel.

Our staff travel frequently to our featured destinations to maintain first hand knowledge and experience and our carefully selected representatives have been highly trained to provide the service that our clients expect. We work closely with a select choice of local guides and with their mixture of knowledge, flexibility and friendliness we are able to bring the destinations alive.

Press Trips

Silk Steps facilitates a small number of press trips and requests are considered strictly in line with a confirmed commission (provided in writing) and an analysis of circulation and readership of the relevant publication.

We are also happy to receive requests and to discuss a particular commission with the journalist or editor concerned.

Photo Library

We have an extensive library of images of the destinations that we operate in. These are for use by newspapers and magazines only and must be linked to an article or press mention of Silk Steps. We regret we cannot release images for general use.
