Silk Steps Travels Responsibly
Silk Steps strongly believes that tourism need not have a negative impact on the countries visited and the communities involved. Since Silk Steps was established in 1995, we have continually strived to ensure that our host countries benefit from the arrangements we put together on behalf of our clients. We aim to use locally-owned hotels and eco-lodges, where they exist, and also use the services of local residents whose knowledge of the area can bring much more depth
to your visit.
Silk Steps supports the efforts of hoteliers to move towards an environmentally friendly operation by encouraging them to source food locally, use water and energy sparingly and recycle where possible. We encourage our local agents to support the local communities by employing them and helping them to bring their produce and handicrafts to the attention of visitors.
Silk Steps is associated with Climate Care and contributes to programmes that offset the cost of greenhouse gas emissions from air travel. We also actively support several local charities and projects, including the Kindu Trust in Ethiopia. In addition, we support the End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT UK) to protect children and strengthen their rights.
With your support, together we can do so much more.
